The Prince Edward Island Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination in areas such as employment and services on the basis of certain personal characteristics or grounds (sex, race, disability...). Discrimination is the unequal, stereotypical or prejudicial treatment of persons.
The Prince Edward Island Human Rights Commission is an independent body that administers and enforces the Prince Edward Island Human Rights Act. The Act establishes a complaint process for the investigation and adjudication of complaints. The Commission also develops programs of public information and education about human rights.
