Bill No. 34 – An Act to Amend the Employment Standards Act (No. 3): Bereavement Leave
Proposed upcoming changes to Bereavement Leave (Passed First Reading in Legislative Assembly on October 19, 2021):
Adds a new entitlement to bereavement leave when a pregnancy ends due to prenatal pregnancy loss or stillbirth, whether it is the pregnancy of:
- the employee;
- the employee’s spouse/partner;
- the employee’s former spouse/partner if the employee would have been a biological parent of the child;
- a surrogate if the employee would have been the intended parent of the child.

Proposed changes to the Employment Standards Act are currently not yet in force. It must still pass through several stages before it receives Royal Assent and comes into force.
