Emergency Income Payment for Remote and Impacted Workers
The Emergency Income Payment for Remote and Impacted Workers is a one-time $500 payment for Islanders who work remotely for a business that is not located in Prince Edward Island and had an income loss of $500 or more caused by the hurricane.
This emergency payment is also for workers who were unable to work because of caregiving responsibilities for children 12 years of age or under that were impacted by childcare and/or school closures and had an income loss of $500 or more.
Who is eligible for funding?
Remote Workers:
- For the purposes of this income support, remote work is defined as an employment arrangement where an individual living in Prince Edward Island is working remotely for a business who does not have an office location established in Prince Edward Island.
- To be eligible individuals must demonstrate the income loss was due to power outage and/or loss of internet connectivity occurring between September 25, 2022 – October 14, 2022
Caregivers:
- To be eligible individuals must demonstrate the income loss was due childcare and/or school closures between September 25, 2022 – October 14, 2022.
- The childcare and/or school closure is related to a child or children 12 years of age or under.
What do I need to apply?
- For remote workers, download the Remote Worker Confirmation form for your employer to complete and sign as this will be a required attachment.
- For caregivers, download the Childcare Closure Confirmation form for your employer to complete and sign as this will be a required attachment.
- Copy of proof of PEI residency (ie: driver’s license, health card, or other documentation)
- Copy of a void cheque or document from your financial institution to show transit number, financial institution and account number
How do I apply?
Once you have the Remote Worker Confirmation or Childcare Closure Confirmation form signed by your employer, please complete the application, upload required documentation and select the Apply Now button below.
Other Important Information
- Only one parent is eligible for impacted worker support for caregivers.
- The $500 payment made through this program is considered taxable.
- Only one payment will be issued per individual under this program.
What is the timeline for payment?
- Once an application is received you will receive a notification with a submission number. Please do not submit multiple applications. If you have inquires related to your submission contact skillspei@gov.pe.ca
- Once an application is approved you will receive an email notification advising of approval with payment details.
- Completed applications are expected to process within 3-5 business days.
To avoid delays, please ensure the Remote Worker Confirmation or Childcare Closure Confirmation form is complete and signed by your employer and that your banking information is accurate. Deposit timeline will vary dependent on your financial institution.
When is the deadline for applications?
Applications will be accepted until November 30, 2022.
