PEI Emergency Payment for Workers
The Emergency Payment for Workers program provides financial support to residents of Prince Edward Island who have been financially impacted by public health orders related to COVID-19 during the two-week period December 7 – 21, 2020.
This emergency income program is a one-time lump sum payment of $500 from the Government of Prince Edward Island. This emergency benefit is taxable income. The reduction of income must have occurred as a result of the public health order effective December 7, 2020. All applicants must be residents of Prince Edward Island to apply.
Who is eligible to participate?
To be eligible an applicant must meet one the following criteria within the impacted industries:
- job loss or lay off between December 7 – 21, 2020;
- reduction in a minimum of 12 hours per week of work between December 7-21, 2020;
- self-employed with significant reduction in wages between December 7-21, 2020
Impacted Industries
An individual who works in the industries identified for restrictions under the public health order effective December 7, 2020 are eligible to apply, including:
- recreational facilities, including gyms, fitness facilities, bingo halls, casinos, museums and libraries;
- restaurants;
- retail stores and markets;
- other industries impacted by the public health measures.
How do I apply?
Applications will be available on December 10, 2020. Eligible individuals are encouraged to complete the online application to avoid delays. Applicants can mail applications however timelines for payment will be impacted.
How does the program work?
Eligible individuals who meet the program criteria will receive the following:
• A one-time lump sum payment of $500 for the two-week period December 7 – 21, 2020 (Taxable Income)
• Only one application per eligible individual.
What information is required to complete application?
To complete your application you will require:
- Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Banking Information
- Void cheque
- Financial institutional number, branch transit number, and account number
- If name on banking information is different than applicant then reason why must be given
- Employment Information.
Please be advised, approved applications may take up to 5 business days before receipt of payment. Approved individuals must keep supporting documents that demonstrate their eligibility for a period of three years following approval for audit and compliance purposes.
When is the deadline for applications?
The deadline for applications is January 8, 2021. Online applications are recommended; however applications can be submitted via mail to one of the addresses noted below received by January 8, 2021. Applications will be available December 10, 2020.
